Yeah, those two characters... they're passionate, you know? But once that passion runs out, they're just so sad, and a lot of the second episode is about them running out of gas. The second they can't distract themselves with self-deception and/or light hostage-taking, they're left with having to examine their own culpability in their relationship's failure. It can make the first episode a little much to deal with (they're difficult characters to invest in, at first), but it all pays off in the finale.
