I've played 3 Ultimate, 4 Ultimate, and Generations on 3DS, along with World on PS4, and there's honestly no bad place to start. But since you're deciding between World and Rise, and seeing as I've only played World (I do own Rise, just haven't gotten around to it yet) I would say World, but if the Switch holds your fancy, Rise works as well.

It doesn't matter which one you pick, either one would be a great place to start. I've still got all of the post-Iceborne content to get around to (I got the DLC late) and I probably will return to that game eventually, because I absolutely enjoyed World. I'll probably start Rise this week, and from everything I've seen in the trailers, it looks really good.

So yeah, either one would be a great place to start, so I hope you enjoy which ever one you decide to go with, since these games are amazing, no matter where you start! Because sometimes you just want a game where you beat up big monster with big weapons, then wear armor and weapons of said monster.
