This is something that I feel people who turn their noses up at "simplistic" stories tend to miss. "Keep It Simple Stupid" is a phrase for a reason, and when you've got something to say, you should make your intent and message as crystal clear as possible, so as to not cause a mixed message or outright confusion. Plus, the beauty of simplicity is that by keeping your story with a direct, well, direction, there's alot less for you to actually mess up.
