Well, from Indonesia.... I'd think you'd rather not live in this kind of place. The dub is obviously not in English. And after a shitshow of TV programs the country had, this is actually a recent surge of how tokusatsu are aired again in the TV, after how people here longs for airing shows like toku, anime, etc., which is hampered by various kinds of censoring to be aired now and iirc, only last aired in early 2000s (childhood nostalgia time!).

Don't get me wrong, I like Shinji as a character, but normally, you see way more "evolution" in the main character than what he had.

I don't think main character or not should be judged by how many evolution they got. There are various purpose of characters in the story, regardless of roles, like characters who are mostly at peak of their characterization, and had paragon role, serves to show an example to others either characters or audience, etc.

It's still ambiguous if Ren is dead or not in that scene yeah, though Ren would had death by irony if he actually had. Though Shiro's going to reset the world soon, and Ren got the better outcome by him being together with Eri with the reset world, as Eri was harmed by Darkwing which doesn't exist anymore.
