I remember this woman I was dating, and we had a fight. She made some comment she thought was a joke, and I took it hard, and I wasn't great at explaining how it hurt me, and I sort of shut down. So, yeah, watching Shinji absolutely lose his resolve to break up with Ryoko when he saw how much it hurt her? Zero complaints about that! Felt incredibly personal and well-observed! When you truly love someone, shit gets complicated! It is very hard to watch them be sad and know that you had a hand in it!
