It's just a misapplied plot development, since literally the last thing Taiga needed heading into the final seven episodes was an additional motivation. He's Wataru's brother, Maya's son, Mio's fiance, the king of the Fangires, a corporate leader... I don't also need him to have a tortured backstory that involves Shima being, I assume, a capricious and belittling father figure who exercises more than he actively contributes! Taiga was not exactly underdeveloped.
