I've gained a new appreciation for Kiva after rewatching it, so I've promoted it from 10/19 to 7/19 in my currently Blade-less Heisei Rider ranking!

We've actually known how old Megumi is for most of the show, since that stalker creep Sheep Fangire mentioned she was born in late December 1987, a Capricorn and 20 years old (which sounds like he knows a lot until you realize it's really three different ways of saying the same thing, although he did mention blood type as well). Regarding Wataru suddenly being a high school student in the movie, well, there are reasons that movie is non-canon. He's always been a 20 year-old since the start of the show.

Shizuka is a 14 year-old who refers to herself as Wataru's mother, so there's very little correlation between age and these two girls wanting to act as a mature role model to a dude who is actually older but lacks social skills due to his strange upbringing.

And yeah, the 1986 plot did roll in to 1987 for exactly one episode, that being the one where Otoya dies. If you paid close attention to the OP, you might have noticed the years had changed to 1987 and 2009.

Inoue definitely does his best work within the boundaries of PG entertainment. When he writes a movie, V-Cinema, or whatever Shougeki Gouraigan was supposed to be, there's a chance it can get weird and not always in a good way. This is the opposite of Kobayashi, who works better with less boundaries.
