For the folks who started with Decade... I kind of wonder what it would've been like to see some of those awesome suits in the intro battle, get really into one design, and then learn that the design you love is a movie character who never shows up again. Or, like, Garren doesn't really fly a lot my dude. The Rider War scene in Episode 1 definitely creates maybe an impossible standard for any show to live up to, if you're traveling backwards through Heisei.

I was mostly drawn into the main riders so that helped, and I was a fan of RPGs, so I stuck with tropes I knew using their designs as basis. So, I took Caucasus for some sort of boss/general kind of character, Ixa and the Riotroopers as mooks (How wrong I was. It took years for me to learn that Ixa was the secondary rider and not Saga.)

Kaixa and his bike was also something I took interest on. Only solidified once I knew who Kaixa really was.



But mostly, I was enraptured by the presentation of it. Hordes of Kamen Riders just charge at this one Kamen Rider whom is apparently the main character of the show! Feelings like that don't last, and I wish it does.

Edit: also, in discussing the show itself. But also not really, I love Journey Through The Decade. It's unique in the sea of other openings. Most openings (that I can currently recall) are always about hyping you up for the episode, upbeat, shows you the heroic Kamen Rider, but Decade's is more kinda sad in a way? My favorite parts are Natsumi standing there as various riders appear and fade out, and the end part with Decade fighting the main riders. Sets up how I view Decade, as just this eternal rider filled with conflict with other riders.

Which, I guess kinda makes the rest of the show pale in comparison lmao. It's just Decade meeting the main riders, only having the "conflicting with all the mains" at the end of it.
