It's less that Ryuki was unique in having a primary/secondary relationship that was tense and combative (like, Agito/Gills, or Agito/G3 for a minute, or Agito/Another Agito), and more that the gimmick of the show front-to-back was about how to value other perspectives and sacrifice for someone else's ideals. There's going to be conflict in every single partnership - that's where a lot of the drama comes from in an ensemble! - but making an entire show about navigating those differences was (at the time) fairly unique to Ryuki.

I guess the thing I'd point out here is that it's not really Dragreder, it's Ryuki being subjected to a Final Form Ride from Decade. As much as they may look alike, they probably have different powers and fighting styles.
