If it's a fanfic, novel or other media that doesn't have VA, such as Final Fantasy VIII, then I will always take voices from other media based on how I think those characters will sound. Sometimes those voices might change if I get a better understanding of the characters. Can you imagine reading a ship where you're voicing both characters? I think that would be awkward. There are some versatile VAs like Troy Baker and Tara Strong who can be imagined for a lot of different characters.

What about suit actors though? That's something I think about more often when I'm planning original Sentai, to try and think how the characters' body type would translate in to suit.
