It's not really dropped, but moreso that everything else around it was altered.
Ninja Captor, alongside Gorenger and JAKQ, were considered "Sentai" while Battle Fever and onward were considered part of the "Super Sentai" series.

Fast forward 20 years of Toei waffling on whether Gorenger and JAKQ were part of the main franchise until they finally made up their mind. As a result, the Sentai trio that was a precursor to Super Sentai faded away and Ninja Captor basically lost all franchise relations
