which is why I always wondered why crimson moon was the only entry in the franchise to utilize this technique

As far as I can remember, the first anime never actually brings up that there's a time limit. Though yeah, that does make one wonder why barriers aren't more common place.

Personally I just assumed the barrier was to prevent Horrors from escaping.

Atleast as far as the dub is concerned, the names of Horrors doesn't even really come up, so yeah, I had zero idea about that.
