Not a go-to on the subject, but essentially it's cryptocurrency and it has a LOT of controversy, in both economic and environmental terms. The link up top is a long version, so someone smarter than me will have to share a trustworthy short version.

As for Hasbro, this is a total contradiction in terms of their claim to be more environmentally-friendly and this is just another needless complication in the annals of exclusives (which are getting too expensive to support).

I'll never be ready to ignore Hasbro in their entirety, but I sincerely hope that they're paying attention to all the negativity this decision will generate! If they ever directly ask us about the viability of future NFTs, say in an online survey, we should rise up together and denounce the concept. So far, this is just an experiment on their part; a way to cash in on a fad that got bigger than it should. It's problematic, but they haven't crossed the line completely yet.
