I've continues watching Timeranger through episode 21 and this is really shaping up to be the Sentai I've always wanted. Between the genuinely intriguing overarching elements and a delightful cast, I've been really pleased! Before this my favorite Sentai tended to be the more tongue-in-cheek ones like Kakuranger and Carranger, but Timeranger is showing me that a more serious tone can work well too! I think what really elevates the show for me is that it generally avoids a common issue I have with a lot of other Sentai, where main characters are just not really allowed to be interesting outside outside of episodes focused on them. Timeranger is just really good at conveying everyone's personality and dynamics even through little scenes, like by having Sion doing something quirky in the background. There was a scene in a recent episode where Ayase offers to go without food, and Tatsuya butts in, insisting that he has to eat. It was just a tiny bit of the episode, but it perfectly captured both Ayase's tendency to put others first and Tatsuya's extra concern for Ayase due to his illness. It really is the little things that count, eh?
