He didn't come to Hiromi to laugh at him, just to see him off. Even remarking that it's for the best he leaves instead of dying. And I'm also pretty sure he was the one that set the ship into crashing to screw with Director Akaishi's schemes, he's the only one who would know how to do that and why else would he do that other than to sound the alarms.

I also wonder if he'll be a rider at all, it'd be actually interesting if he doesn't.
