I didn't explicitly mention this, so thank you for bringing it up, because, yes, that is *exactly* why it got me so excited. It wasn't just that I was finally seeing her waving that huge stick around; it was how beautifully that signified something meaningful in the story, and instantly made me glad they held off on it as long as they did.

I remember seeing an exchange on Twitter where Kamen Rider Kuuga's chief producer, reminiscing about an episode (43) that barely had any actual Kuuga in it, asked people who watched it as kids back in the day how they felt about that, and one of the responses really stuck with me, which is that they basically said it just made them feel cool and mature for watching something that didn't even have a fight scene. And like, I think that's probably a great glimpse into how lots of kids will feel about stuff like this.

This is just my guess, of course, but I believe at the end of the day, as long as the show still involves a decent amount of fun colorful action somewhere in there, even really little kids will go along with more "proper" drama than you might expect. They'll either grasp the story better than you'd give them credit for, or it won't matter to them either way because they're just waiting for the action anyway, even when watching something easier to understand.
