Definitely not; I think pretty much everyone made that connection immediately. Even Takahashi was apparently consciously trying to make sure he didn't write them exactly the same way.

I might be misunderstanding what you're saying here somehow, but Punching Kong's gloves don't actually cover the hands completely.
