Actually, I just imagine Gentaro's whole solution to stopping Metsuboujinrai being "let's be friends with them!" and Aruto going "Hey, that's not a bad idea!" while Fuwa realizes there's two of them now.

The orange jumpsuits were definitely giving me flashbacks to Fourze summer movie, and probably had me subconsciously expecting Aruto to go on some wack space-training montage.

He's very fun, and the actor does a great job imbuing him with a charming prickliness, where you feel like him and Aruto could be friends eventually.

And then the show forgets about that plot for some MetsubouJinrai shenanigans.

That's the fun twist, because normally Rider shows give the Dangerous Upgrade to the normally nice and sweet guys, to telegraph how much their decision-making is compromised by anger/guilt/etc. (Hazard Form in Build is probably the gold standard of this trope.) So to give it to the guy who already doesn't believe in half-measures against the enemy, or cares about his own survival so long as he accomplishes his mission... it's a neat way of sort of leaving the interpretation up to the audience. Again, it's a show that is way more interested in discussion than in telling you how to feel.
