And to make things a little bit more interesting I've decided that I will only be updating on Tuesdays, as they are the only day of which I have free, especially since this is Zero-One related and I've given up on that show entirely.

Still, I gotta cover these anime shorts, right? This is the Toku Anime thread, and DreamSword has been deemed unfittingly biased for the job. Especially since he dares like nearly every aspect of a TV that's only out to do good in the world. As such this thread is under new, more competent management and will be offering far more in-depth analysis of the source material which actually has some valid thoughts behind it for once.

...What was that? Well anyway, hope you all end up enjoying these shorts as much as I do! Let's dive into...

Episode 1: Izu Gives Aruto a Tour of Hiden

Man, never thought that eating your vegetables would make for some primo comedy, but here we are! This episode takes place during episode 2, and is about Izu giving Aruto a tour of the Hiden Offices. While mostly played for laughs, the episode does serve as a neat little piece of world building, which is something I feel like these shorts in general actually manage to do rather well for the most part.

Things come to a hard stop though when the two reach the cafeteria, and Izu informs Aruto of the automated system it runs on: Recommending specific meals to employees based on their dietary habits. The system recommendation for Aruto is Boiled Butterbur Shoot, and it ain't taking no for a answer.

And that, ontop of how the building is covered in Mamoru clones, clearly symbolizes how Hiden Intelligence is a stand-in for a totalitarian police state, wherein your free will is taken away and you're forced to become a part of the machine. You can't think, you can't feel. You can only submit yourself to the system or otherwise be disposed of. Izu serves as a brutal enforcer, what with how she outright ignores Aruto's' pleas of ordering something else and makes him eat so many vegetables anyway. This is one of the most depressing pieces of media I've ever seen!

But that's kind what makes it so funny. It's not often that spamming something over and over makes a joke land for me, but here, I felt it really worked. The timing was on point and the concept is just so ridiculous in the first place that once the cafeteria was reached, I was laughing the entire time through. Even the credits reel is funny: With Aruto having to each an entire assembly line's' worth of vegetables. Poor guy.

Sure, these are clearly no budget and the art style is weirdly reminiscent of Gaia Online, but not only do I find that charming in its own right, the writing really is what carries these.
