I think this plot development suffered the most from the pace of Episode 36. The flashback reveal to Jin and Yua's plotting needed, like, another forty-five seconds to try and lay out the pros and cons. As it is, it feels like total guesswork, and that makes them both seem unnecessarily reckless.
