That's how I would see it, but Bazdo joined the fight willingly. They wanted to fight the Sphere. If like, a Sphere scout followed the crashing Earth ship and then the invasion happened without any action from Bazdo I would understand it, this is them trying to help and then doing a surprised Pikachu face at what followed though.
Also, gotta love the random dog. If losing his wife wasn't bad enough, a cute dog had to bite the dust too

And that's fine for a villain, but the show set it up like he has a point and Kanata went all moody over - well, nothing. I also don't like how humanity is essentially 100% the good guys again now; I was actually hoping there would be a lesson against aggressive expansion into unknown territory in this show somewhere.
