Well yeah, I mean, faulting this film for its lack of complex plotting or deep themes would make about as much sense to me as berating a Hyper Battle Video for not being serious enough, you know? I'm very much considering the movie in the broader context of when and where it was released and why it has the goals it does and all that, and I really do think they nailed it? It's a very traditional sort of Japanese kids' show movie deal where it is 100% about the simple thrill of going to a theater and cheering your favorite heroes on as they do cool action stuff on a bigger screen than usual. The only way it could be more old-school is like, if it were literally just a cropped version of one of the regular episodes from TV. Paradise Lost is still probably my favorite Rider movie ever because of how much it just feels like a *film*, but something like this, it's kind of in a different genre entirely the way I see it?
