I think it's also an issue where too many participants, on the production side, are trying to make sure that the audience is suspicious of Reika. The actor's giving everything a layer of menace. The director's framing her shots to increase your discomfort as a viewer. The writer is including additional scenes of her having secret phone calls, and having her show up to conversations in order to blow them up. The set designer is making sure her base of operations is the most uncomfortable, foreboding location imaginable. And the musical director is giving her Suspicious Music. It's too much!
