This is two parts

The hobby side

This is where someone gets an item just because the price is low.

The full set side

People hunt all over trying to find that one missing item to finish
the set but can't because no longer in print as it were.

You need to also build the cllection when it starts up.

I did this when Shout put out the Power Rangers DVDs. I got the box
sets rather than wait months for the year releases. Took me 4 buy ins
for MMPR - RPM. (Boxed sets)

As for Toy Collecting try to buy in groups. Sometimes a missing item
will be part of a group release.
