It's really nice. I like the way the show is portraying Aguilera as the demonic cult equivalent of a spoiled rich girl who's lost everything. She was all smug and condescending when she was treated like a princess, lecturing Sakura on her lack of drive, and now she doesn't know how to deal with actual adversity. Meanwhile, Sakura's on the other side of her self-actualization, and realizes that Aguilera's never once had to motivate herself to do anything. It's a fun dynamic!
With absolutely zero subtext!

See, I was warming to Kagerou (I like a tragic asshole!) and this ending wasn't as rich as I'd hoped for. I don't think it was
bad
or
wrong
, though -- just not up to the standards of this show's previous inner demon stories. I definitely haven't turned on Revice!

It does feel
slightly
out of character, but I think it still makes sense for George in the broad strokes. Hiromi (according to George) willingly agreed to use the very dangerous Demons Driver, because he wanted to be a hero that badly. (And he
was
a hero, badly.) Giving Kagerou the Driver was an experiment; this is consigning Daiji to death. George likes there to be enough of a variable in the experiment so that success is possible, and death only happens if something goes horrifically wrong. I don't think he's at the point in his mad science where he wants the blood to be directly on his hands.
And thanks for the fun skit!

I think it's still a story about Kagerou being stronger, just not in the way Daiji assumes. Kagerou's able to assert his will and take over Daiji's body, but he loses the fight because Daiji's strength is in being able to push past the shame and anger that gave birth to Kagerou in the first place. Giff's influence made Kagerou stronger, but Kagerou made Daiji stronger still.
