He just contrasts well with the highly emotional, self-interested main cast. He's ultimately a business man doing his job, which he believes is right, and he's just kind of cool and calculating in that regard. He was the series adult among a group of children.

I did always find it amusing that he counts as one of the main four despite being totally out of their league and hardly appearing (at least in his default form) that much as a Rider.

He also looks amazing so there's that.
