Oh, I can find a lot of negative comments about them. These shows were widely criticized by fans of the darker shows of the 2000s for their stupidity, loud jingles, ever-increasing number of toys, low stakes and turning into Sentai. Plus, regarding W, only the lazy didn`t criticize the ending with Phillip`s resurrection.

I think the bleakness of Revice comes not from the deaths of nameless extras, but from the fact that the show gets rid of supporting characters like Akemi and the Ushijima family forever and in a very casual manner.

If it's not a tragedy for the show's characters, then the audience perceives it as such. As for the choice to judge by actions, it is quite logical. Repentance is not an excuse, for there are evil-suffering people who commit their atrocities with tear-stained faces. Plus, there are addicts who sincerely repent, but continue to do the same thing. If a character wants to earn forgiveness, he must do something good and then be forgiven quickly enough. Daichi is a great example of this.
