Dunno why people are assuming Supana's memories being erased to forge Boruto. It seems to be clear that it's established as Supana's aloof and dismissive personality to refuse acknowledging the existence of people around him unless they catch his attention like Rinne.

Spanner pretty much gave away the moral of the episode in the cold open. People can dislike him for being an a**hole as much as they want, but Bolt's toxic obsession with him is a warning to Houtarou about the danger of envy turning in to jealousy. Like, Bolt wasn't even trying to prove himself the superior alchemist at this point, he just wanted to make Spanner suffer for the sake of it. I would rather advocate, liking Supana (or other similar characters, or even worse ones like actual villains) without sweeping their questionable traits under the rug. Otherwise yes, as said above, Boruto's dark reflection of both Hotaro (inferiority complex to Supana) and Rinne (alchemist wanting to follow their father's footsteps). Boruto is when Hotaro's inferiority complex to Supana completely takes over his life, rather than just being a minor part of his life, moreover with how Boruto is insignificant to Supana unlike Hotaro who is at odds against Supana for clashing ideologies. Boruto barely catches Supana's attention despite always hunting him while Rinne brings the best from Supana without interacting much with him.
