Sorry to hear that, that sucks. It does end up feeling like either way you lose, you go through the anguish and tension of being unlucky in love or just risk remaining alone. I envy the people who go through life from as early as possible with the person they end up with, the ones who grow up with their childhood sweethearts.

I'm not in a good place now in my life from being bereaved on top of already having depression, which has just increased it tenfold. I would love to have somebody to, well, love. But I'm nothing right now and having nothing to give but grief and anguish, and I would never inflict that on another person.

So though not the same as what you've been through I certainly understand the feelings.
