Historically, Shotaro is not great with kids, and he's exactly the sort of hot-tempered dork to needlessly escalate a prickly social interaction with a stranger. There's probably some truth to him being quicker to annoy without Philip around to level him out (he sort of says as much to Akira), but a lot of this is, like, Shotaro. Basic, everyday Shotaro.

For how he tries to give Akira manly advice... that's just him trying to act like Sokichi, instead of acting like Shotaro.
