Gigist's evil empathy failed him for once, as he totally cannot understand the Gotcha between Houtarou and the Chemies that cause them to defy him. I think that annoys him worse than actually getting destroyed by them. He tried to speculate that Houtarou is an idiot for lacking malice, but that sounds so pathetic that Gigist is the real idiot for dismissing the possibility of a human with emotional intelligence higher than his own, or rather he's too proud to admit that to himself. He's the kind of person who thinks he's always right, so he'll never learn. He really should've heeded Clotho's warning, but again, that would mean taking advice from a "lesser lifeform".

Man, I sure hope you're wrong about that. I want to have faith that Houtarou can save Clotho before it's too late.

Minato's and Spanner's motivation is probably that the Union are a bunch of incompetent a**holes who let Geryon have his way, got Suzuya and the Kurogane parents killed, nearly got Sabi killed and forced Fuuga to leave Rinne at a young age. The future students of alchemy deserve better than them! This is a sign of Minato's development, having learned from Houtarou to believe in his own power. Besides, if Gigist can easily break in and kill one of the Union, then how tough can they be?

Clever how the Gotcha Brothers gimmick continues the Houtarou-Gigist comparison and contrast as well. Gigist could turn Chemies in to Dark Malgams without human hosts and now Houtarou with Nijigon can turn Chemies in to Gotchards without human hosts. Surely Rainbow Gotchard will later team up with SteamHopper for a climactic moment! Maybe even Platina! I totally called that Rainbow Rare Chemies were buffed by Nijigon!
