Recently got my copy of the second volume of
The Dead Lucky
.
And, man, this was such a massive improvement over the first volume! It was a legitimate step up in practically every regard.
The pacing felt very natural and movie-like, the art direction was rather good with noticeably different hues to signify framing and tone, and the character arc with Bibi got me to rather like her as a protagonist.
Which is why it makes me so, so sad to find out that this was actually the ending to the story overall. Volume 2 really got me wanting to see more out of this cast of characters in this section of the Massive-Verse. Especially if the quality were going to remain even remotely the same as it was here.
But sadly no, this has to end. Meanwhile,
Rogue Sun
, a story that hangs onto its same annoying habits over and over again, gets to keep going. It's not fair man.
Overall, I recommend grabbing both volumes of
The Dead Lucky
and giving them a read whenever you have a solid amount of time to kill. It ends up being a story of how people handle grief, loss, and anxiety, all mixed with some rather neat superheroic and military action. Check it out!
