There's the obvious aspect of it where he's scared people won't accept him for who he is, but it definitely comes off like the deeper problem is really that Shouma doesn't fully accept himself yet. The best part about this is that we see proof that his fears of not being accepted has some weight in it. He's mistaken for amonster by the kid's mother last episode, and the person he saves this episode thinks of him as one as well. I know that he'll eventually find acceptance (this *is* a kid's show) but it's these details that make it a pleasure to see his journey.

Kekera would absolutly love this guy.
