I agree with the second scenario though, based on how Dente praises him. And yeah, Bouche is still an abusive father and husband to the extent that the story needs him to be, but he's not totally depraved in that way.

I do wonder if they will try to redeem the dad later. As in, it will be revealed that he had good intensions, but the lesson will be that you don't have to forgive your abusers to find peace.

Dente will obviously be involved in engineering upgrades for Gavv in the future, so maybe Shouma has to look into his Granute-side eventually.
