For me, it's the opposite. I remember Wizard vividly, since I'm a big Wizard fan and I rewatched it at some point during the late 10s, but I've only watched OOO once while it was airing.

I think Ankh?s prominence in my memory over Eiji has less to do with Eiji?s sweetness than with Eiji's tendency in the narrative to be mostly reacting to Ankh?s cruelty/hilarity. This episode alone is largely just Eiji trying to work around Ankh?s more human-indifferent goals, while Ankh is the one deciding where to go next and how to approach a problem. Eiji?s job is to work within Ankh?s restrictions and push back on Ankh?s imperiousness, which makes for a solid episode of tense conflict between our leads, but definitely gives Ankh the juicier part.

Makes sense that the guy whose defining trait is his total lack of desire is not the driving force of this memorable pair of main characters. Eiji wants to save people, a noble goal but not a goal that has an end. Ankh's goal is clear, he wants Medals, so the friction between them comes from Ankh having to work around Eiji's inconvenient heroism and Eiji having to keep Ankh from going too far. Ankh is an entertaining character for sure, but I think Eiji brings out the more interesting parts of Ankh, which is why this dynamic works.
