Granted, the inherently vague nature of exactly how much energy Haruto has at any given moment means it's not actually something the show regularly relies on for dramatic reasons. It's only even a major factor in this story mostly because of how useful it is to build Koyomi as a character in that specific moment.

Definitely! It's a story that, for both Koyomi and Takagi, is kind of all about being comfortable with the person you are, so not having Takagi suddenly manage a surprise win at the competition is critical for getting that across.

Which is probably the right choice for only the fifth episode. There's already a difference in the tone of that second "suit yourself", but the show still leaves lots of room for the dynamic to grow, rather than having Koyomi pull a total 180 literally overnight.
