I'm with you on this one. So far I only have 2 SRC's, and I think it might be a while before I purchase another. I got DekaRobo because S.P.D. is my favorite series and then I purchased Daizyujin because, well, it's Daizyujin.

For all of the other series/Megazords I don't care as much about, I'm fine with picking up a retrofire for a fraction of the cost. And, like you, I use to love the 5 inch 'action zords' they used to make. I see the retrofires as just a continuation of that scaled down megazord line.
