I think it's only fair to give the episode that much credit considering how clearly the surrounding story is very much about that sort of thing.
I really like my superhero fights to emphasize having that big turnaround moment where the villain seems more and more unstoppable right up until the hero cleverly gains the upper hand, but in this specific case, it accomplishes something broadly similar in a very different way. The Shadow Nightmare still has a tricky special power, but instead of being physical like a big rock in space ZEZTZ needs gravity powers to stop from falling on Earth, it's the emotional hold it has on NOX as this boogeyman hiding in the darkness, only to quickly crumble when ZEZTZ drags him out into the light.
The struggle is more metaphorical than usual, but I think that ends up working well with the story they were telling. Plus, you know, there are still quite a few nice beats to that fight scene, so it's not like the action itself was bland or anything, despite the biggest hurdle in it for ZEZTZ being one of his own Capsems rather than the actual monster.
