And at last, Ultraman Omega comes to a close. I was actually pretty caught off guard by Sorato giving his life to Kosei like that, even though it's such an Ultraman trope and is even foreshadowed by the lyrics to the ED theme. Nice little finale to the show.

Overall I think Omega was alright. In terms of New Generation shows I think I like it a bit less than Geed and a bit more than X. Early on I was quite fond of it, and obviously I thought the finale was pretty good too, but the show just felt like it lacked focus. It probably would have been more compelling to me if the show has really honed in on the whole "bonds between humans, aliens, and kaiju" angle and to be blunt cut out some of the superfluous characters and storylines. I really don't think the KSTC added to the show in the end, and there were some other episodes like the Alien Barossa one that just felt at odds with the show's very setting. Ayu and Sayuki also tended to spend a lot of time on the sidelines. It certainly had some good points though, I think the Meteokaiju are actually my favorite combat gimmick in an Ultra show (even if I find it frustrating that we never got an explanation for their origin or why Kosei had to use them for so long) and I think the show trying to center the story on Sorato and Kosei's dude-ish friendship was a smart idea even if the show drifted away from focusing on their dynamic later on. I'd like to see more Ultra shows that have an emotional core like that. I also got to experience watching an Ultra show as it aired for the first time with Omega, and while it didn't really blow me away it was interesting how different the experience felt from binging a show in the series that had already aired and has been a nice thing to look forward to in Friday evenings for me.
