This episode plays a trick when a seemingly filler story turns into a major milestone, changing the show's main plot. It turns out that thanks to NOX's previous actions (and Lady's plans), people have been trapped in a shared dream. And while the Nightmares are weak, there are many of them, meaning the likelihood of the door opening is very high. Looks like there's work for all the CODE Agents.
Speaking of Agents, while Baku and Nem were enjoying themselves with roleplaying, real spy games were taking place in the forest thickets. Besides Kureha and Agent Three, there's another spy on the case, a master of combat, but not exactly a noble hero. However, I don't think the organization needs him for conversations with the Dreamers. Ultimately, NOX is captured, but his plan continues.
My other thoughts on the episode:
- The Demon King from the drawings will definitely appear in the flesh. It seems his birth is precisely what the Lady needs to connect reality and the Nightmare world.
- The fact that Nem is trying to learn lucid dreaming and take control of the situation will also play a role.
- It's great that they found an excuse for Toei to use the extras' wardrobe from King Ohger. And the LED panels too.
- Minami's reaction to Nightmare was amusing.
I also have to say that I felt like Baku, for the first time, wasn't at the center of the story, but rather somewhere in the background, performing a side quest while important things were happening in the main plot. However, I think the next episode will give him a chance to shine.
So, my verdict remains the same: I like it, but with some reservations. And I'm already curious to see what happens next week.
