My first Figuarts have arrived! No photos yet, but here's some quick thoughts:
-They feel different than I expected. They have a much harder plastic than most 1/12 scale figure I've handled from the likes of Hasbro or Figma. Those use something a bit more rubbery. Not that this is bad, but it might take a little getting used to.
-The paint and detailing is exquisite though. All of the metallic colour and tiny details painted front and back, all of the layered clear plastic on the compound eyes (and Gavv's armour), all the intricately sculpted details and textures... just amazing. Not that the FRS stuff I've got was bad in the detail department, but being model kits those did often lack in colour detailing especially.
-All the alt hands are great (though I wish they were a little easier to swap), but I wish they got just a wee bit more accessories. Geats not having the Magnum's rifle mode and Gavv not getting his sword are a little unfortunate, though I'm glad that Zeztz got a good load out despite being a primary Rider.
-The articulation overall is very good, though some of them are a little disappointing in the range of their elbows and back-and-forth shoulder movement.
And some quick thoughts on them individually:
-Zeztz is probably my favourite. Really good paint and sculpt work, pretty much completely unhindered articulation, and a good selection of accessories (the Zeztzam Breaker being able to change forms despite only needing the sword for this form is quite nice). Would've been nice if he'd come with the Wing and Transform Capsems as little extras given those forms are unlikely to be released, but that's more a wish than an issue. Overall and excellent figure.
Demons was my second most anticipated figure in this box, and he's pretty good. Excellent sculpt and paint. I'm particularly happy that they made all eight eyes on his head proper compound eyes. All the spikes are very pointy, so much so that the instructions warn you about it! The articulation is a bit limited with the huge webs, but I was already aware of that and there's not much to be done about the design. Accessories are fine, good selection of hands, a couple of Vistamps and the Gundephone, nothing to write home about but he doesn't have much associated with him unless they wanted to include alternate parts for his sub-forms (though getting those associated Vistamps instead of Eagle would have been nice). Overall a solid figure of the design it's based on.
-Geats is nice. Sculpt and paint is very good. He feels a bit more rattly compared to the others thanks to the mix and match gimmick though. I love that you can do all the buckle powers like opening the arm guns, adjusting the leg exhausts, and clipping the buckles to the gun and belt, though having the open Magnum would have been nice. Articulation is slightly limited due to the bulkier nature of the design, but overall rather good.
-Gavv is cool. I still need to watch the show so this was mainly picked because of the price and appearance. The paint is great, and I adore the use of the under-painted clear parts for the gummy effect. The nods to the armour slowly coming off in the show are neat, but it would have been cool if they went all the way. He's probably the second most articulated next to Zeztz, as apart from the chest and shoulder pads he's got a pretty slim design. Only big miss is the lack of the Gavvgablade, but I can live with it.
Overall happy with the lot, it's cool to be getting Rider figures again, and with shipping they all averaged out to only about ?30 each so honestly I might continue this SHF journey in the future. I'll try to post photos soon!
