The thing that makes Ryuusei work for me -- and hopefully continue to work for me this go around -- is that the actor nails the performative aspect of the character, which is incredibly hard to do. Not in the usual This Guy's A Liar thing, like the parts where Ryuusei chums it up with the KRC or Aw Shucks his way into saving Gen from Ohsugi, but the parts where no one else is watching and you can see in his eyes that he's being a little too cruel, a little too dismissive, and he doesn't like where he's ended up. Even when Ryuusei's being himself, you can tell that he's not being himself, and that's so much fun to watch on a pure acting level.
