Koichi Sakamoto has actually talked about that in multiple interviews. The easiest one to find probably being during the episode of "Let's Talk Toku!" that he was on, wherein he talked about the letter reading scene was the final thing filmed, specifically because everyone knew just how hard it'd hit everyone on staff.

And while I probably sound like a broken record in mentioning how alot of Fourze was just so-so to me, I can also acknowledge how cool it is that the show really hit home with those involved in making it come to life.
