For me, I enjoyed his Star Trek, which I always found very Star Wars. Super 8 has a kind of Spielberg-like wonder about it which would be perfect for Star Wars. It's not a perfect movie, yes, but it's one of the closest movies I've seen recently to capture the magic of the Spielberg/Lucas era.

I think he's a rather safe choice for Star Wars, but I can't say he's perfect until the movie's out of course. I have good reason to be optimistic about it because Abrams has shown the ability to capture wonder and magic in Star Trek and Super 8, and Michael Ardnt would probably do something similar with the script since he wrote the excellent Toy Story 3. If anything, Star Wars needs to be magical again.
