This thread contains a list of Easter Eggs found on each episode of
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
. Most people wouldn't notice certain elements of an episode unless they have seen a previous Super Sentai title. If you spot an Easter Egg that's not on the list, go ahead and post it so I can update the list.
Episode 1
* Snack Safari was in
Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan
as a front for Sun Vulcan's headquarters.
Episode 2
* When the Gokaigers search for someone dressed in black, they see nearly everyone around them dressed in black. One of which is a Kuroko from
Samurai Sentai Shinkenger
sweeping the ground (behind a couple of nuns).
* Navi's catchphrase, "What to do? What to do? What would you do if it were you?" is taken from the lyrics of the
Denshi Sentai Denjiman
ending theme "Denjiman ni Makasero".
Episode 3
* The episode title uses
Mahou Sentai Magiranger
's format of including a magic spell that begins with "Maagi Magi".
Episode 4
* As Joe and Luka leave a shopping center, the center's signboard shows nine stores; all of which are Super Sentai references:
Upper left block: Chuuka Shokudou Sankai Kaku/Shanghai Pavilion Chinese Restaurant (
Gosei Sentai Dairanger
)
Upper center block: Kyouryuu-Ya/Dino House (
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger
)
Upper right block: SCRTC (
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger
)
Middle left block: Ikkan Kenjou Kin no Sushi/Ikkan Kenjou Gold Sushi (
Samurai Sentai Shinkenger
)
Middle center block: Tomorrow Research (
Mirai Sentai Timeranger
)
Middle right block: Wagashiya Imochou/Japanese Confectionery Imochou (
Gekisou Sentai Carranger
)
Lower left block: Shinobi Crepe (
Ninja Sentai Kakuranger
)
Lower center block: Game Riribabita (
Denji Sentai Megaranger
)
Lower right block: Snack Gon (
Himitsu Sentai Goranger
)
Episode 5
* The episode title follows
Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger
's format of using an English title written in
katakana
.
* [Non-Toku Easter Egg] The Wanted page on the newspaper uses text copied from
Wikipedia's Wanted poster article
.
* When the Gokaigers (sans Marvelous) change into the Go-ongers, the subsequent fight choreography (effects, wire-fu, poses, weapon usage) is an homage to
Power Rangers RPM
- the most obvious being Go-on Yellow's use of her tire cuff as a weapon.
* When the Gokaigers change into the Dekarangers, the transformation sequence is a hybrid of those of
Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger
and
Power Rangers S.P.D.
- the latter being the side-view helmet change.
Episode 6
* When Komaki flashes her father's black credit card, it reads "CJX" - an abbreviation of "Cyclone Joker Extreme" from
Kamen Rider W
. The card's bottom right logo references Cyclone Joker's green and black colors. On the left of the card is a Dopant Gaia Memory port. The card also says "Member since 2009", which is the year
Kamen Rider W
aired.
* Nanonanoda references the second ending theme of
Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan
while fighting Gokai Yellow (as Vul Panther). He also references the
J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai
theme as four of the Gokaigers (as J.A.K.Q.) execute the J.A.K.Q. Hurricane on him.
Episode 7
* The episode title follows
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger
's format of including a piece of Jyan Kandou's vocabulary.
Episode 8
* After the Gokaigers use the Goggle-V powers on the Sneak Brothers, Captain Marvelous says, "Stop the battle." This is the title of the
Dai Sentai Goggle-V
ending theme.
Episode 9
* The episode title follows
Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger
's format of a noun followed by a verb. In addition, "
Shishi, Kakeru
(The Lion, Runs)" is the human name of Gao Red.
Episodes 11-12
* The episode title follows
Samurai Sentai Shinkenger
's format of using
kanji
only.
Episode 14
* The episode title references the
Gekisou Sentai Carranger
's first episode "Fighting for Traffic Safety".
* While introducing himself to the Gokaigers, Kyosuke Jinnai hands each of them a bottle of coffee milk - a reference to VRV Master, who was addicted to the drink.
* Kyosuke stepping on Jellacit while being chased by Insarn mirrors a scene in
Gekisou Sentai Carranger vs. Ohranger
, where Kyosuke was trampled by Goro Hoshino and Yuji Mita, who were chasing Bara Machine at an
onsen
.
* The Gokaigers "revving" the Carranger keys on their Mobirates is a nod to the Carrangers' Accel Changer bracelets.
Gokaiger Goseiger 199 Hero Great Battle
* Daigoro Oume's
anpan
business is called "Denjipan", an homage to
Denshi Sentai Denjiman
and his love for
anpan
.
* The Ranger Key activation gun used by Black Cross King flashes red, blue, yellow, pink and green - the order of colors of
Himitsu Sentai Goranger
.
* In the scene where Gokai Pink and Super Gosei Pink fire at the pink Super Sentai warriors, Super Gosei Pink yells, "Pink Double Attack Part 2!" The first Pink Double Attack by Gosei Pink was with Shinken Pink in
Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs. Shinkenger: Epic on Ginmaku
.
Episode 17
* Gokai Silver's introduction references the lyrics of the
Himitsu Sentai Goranger
opening theme.
Episode 18
* The episode's title follows
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger
's format of using the word
Abare
(アバレ) in the title.
* Gai's spirit leaving his body and entering a white light is a reference to a similar scene of Ryoga Hakua in episode 1 of
Abaranger
.
* The scene where Gai talks to Abare Killer, Time Fire, and Dragon Ranger is in the same circle that the KenDan took place in
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger
.
Episode 19
* After Gokai Silver has his Gokai Buckle linked to the Gokai Treanger Box, he summons the Kiba Ranger Key.
Gosei Sentai Dairanger
is Junya Ikeda's favorite Super Sentai series.
Episode 20
* The episode title follows
Seijuu Sentai Gingaman
's format of using
no
(の) in the middle of the title.
* The box of donuts is a reference to
Gingaman
, as Hikaru/Ginga Yellow was addicted to Mister Donut donuts.
Episode 23
* While the episode itself is a tribute to
Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoFive
, it also pays tribute to the other sibling-themed Super Sentai shows. During their first fight against the Gormin sailors, Luka and Ahim change into Five Yellow and Five Pink (of
Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman
), and Magi Yellow and Magi Pink (of
Mahou Sentai Magiranger
).
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger The Movie: The Flying Ghost Ship
* The battle between the Gokaigers and Baseball Mask is an exact remake of episode 53 of
Himitsu Sentai Goranger
, with the exception of the appearance of G3 Princess.
Episode 24
* Jellacit faking his death is an homage to a scene in episode 1 of
Gekisou Sentai Carranger
where Dappu faked his death to get the Carrangers to transform and fight the Space Bosozoku Bowzock.
Episode 25
* The episode title follows
Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger
's format of naming two objects in the episode.
* While hosting his lecture on the Super Sentai greater powers acquired by the Gokaigers, Gai writes an invisible kanji for fire (火) - the
mojikara
of Shinken Red - when talking about Shinkenger. He also does the Dino Buckler pose when mentioning Zyuranger.
* In the scene where Satarakura Jr. turns a truck driver into a chestnut, a song by Nanami Nono/Hurricane Blue is playing on the radio.
* In the scene where Satarakura Jr. turns a boy into a chestnut, Joint Gattai toys of Magi King and Dekaranger Robo can be seen on the boy's book shelf.
* The script Nanami is reading is titled "Ima Kaze no Naka de" (the title of
Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger
's ending theme).
* [Non-Toku Easter Egg] While Sandaaru Jr. and Satarakura Jr. explain their scheme to turn people into chestnuts with their missile, Satarakura Jr. says, "
Souyuu koto!
" ("That's right!"), but pronounces it as "
Shoyu koto!
" while holding a bottle of soy sauce.
Shoyu
is the Japanese word for soy sauce.
* [Continuity Error] Fuuraimaru already has the Gokaiger symbol printed on his weapons.
Episode 26
* While fighting Gormin sailors, Gokai Silver yells, "
Kakugo! Kakugo! Kakugoshiro!
", which is from the lyrics of the
Hurricaneger
opening theme.
* Fuuraimaru uses the same combination style of Gourai Senpuujin when combining with Gokaioh. Once the combination sequence is completed, Fuuraimaru says, "
Hurricane Gokaioh, suisan!
", a reference to the Hurricanegers' usual combine sequence call.
Episode 27
* One of the shopping bags Don (inside Luka's body) carries has the SCRTC logo on it.
* In the scene where Luka and Don see a group of boys bullying girls, all of the signs around the street have names of past Super Sentai female villains:
Furabee (Furabijo) (
Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger
)
Gara (
Gosei Sentai Dairanger
)
Mazenda (
Choujuu Sentai Liveman
)
Venus (Evil Spirit Princess Denus) (
Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoFive
)
Farrah Cat (
Choudenshi Bioman
)
Kirika (
Kousoku Sentai Turboranger
)
Shelinda (
Seijuu Sentai Gingaman
)
Zonnette (
Gekisou Sentai Carranger
)
Ley Nefel (
Choushinsei Flashman
)
Shizuka of the Wind (
GoGo Sentai Boukenger
)
Zero Girls (
Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan
)
Nai & Mea (
Mahou Sentai Magiranger
)
Maltiwa (Multiwa) (
Chouriki Sentai Ohranger
)
Episode 28
* The Golden Gate bar in this episode is named after the same bar that was featured in
Choujin Sentai Jetman
.
* Gai Ikari sings the
Jetman
theme while he, Captain Marvelous and Ahim are out looking for the Jetmen.
* A bottle of Macallan whiskey, which was Gai Yuki's signature drink, sits on his tombstone. Other mementos on his tombstone are references to his teammates: the "Ako-chan" ramen cup (Ako Hayasaka/Blue Swallow), the two flower bouquets (red for Ryu Tendo/Red Hawk and white for Kaori Rokumeikan/White Swan) and the basket of vegetables (Raita Ooishi/Yellow Owl).
* The park bench on the final scene is the same place where Gai Yuki died in the final episode of
Jetman
. The view of the sky is also the last thing he saw on that episode.
Episode 29
* Like episode 18, the episode's title follows
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger
's format of using the word
Abare
(アバレ) in the title.
* The Yukito & Emiri "Eyecatch" is a direct homage to the cliffhanger endings of
Abaranger
, where a Burstosaur would appear and comment on the situation before the commercial break. The episode would then continue where it left off after the ending credits.
* One of Ahim's disguises is a school girl from Saitama looking for directions. Yui Koike is from Saitama.
Episode 30
* During her Treasure Navigation, Navi says, "Hop, Step, Love Jump", which is the title of Colon's song on the
Choujuu Sentai Liveman
soundtrack.
* Action Commander Zaien is voiced by Jouji Nakata - who played Great Professor Bias,
Liveman
's main villain. Zaien's left hand is a metallic claw like Bias'. His line, "Defeat is not in my vocabulary," is a nod to a similar catchphrase by Bias from episode 30 of
Liveman
.
* Jou's entrance is a remake of a scene from episode 18 of
Liveman
, where he raced to save a runaway stroller.
* The scene where the female scientist releases a couple of butterflies is a reference to the introduction line of the
Liveman
opening sequence.
* The skateboard in Jou's office at the restored Academia has stickers that say "Land Lion" (Yellow Lion's mecha), "Skateboard Attack" (Yellow Lion's Jet Skateboard attack name) and "Colon" (which features her profile in silhouette). There is also a sticker of the Yellow Lion symbol, Academia's logo, and a lot of red/blue/yellow colored stickers.
Episode 33
* The episode's title references the first two episodes of
Gosei Sentai Dairanger
in using "
Daaa!!
" (だァァッ!!) in the end of the title.
* While cleaning the Gokai Galleon, Gai does the poses of Go-on Red and Big One.
* In the final scene where the Gokaigers are having Ryo's special gyoza at the bazaar, a vendor on the upper right of the screen is selling Super Sentai masks of Shinken Red, Shinken Gold, Gosei Knight, Gosei Red, Mega Silver, Gao Red, Gao Yellow, Gao White, Gao Blue, Ninja Red, Gosei Black, Gao Black, Shinken Blue, Gosei Blue, Tyranno Ranger, Go-on Black, Aka Red and Skyon Headder.
Episode 34
* While this episode is not a legend tribute, its title, "
Yume wo Kanaete
" ("A Dream Come True"), is named after the ending theme of
Kagaku Sentai Dynaman
.
Episode 35
* The titles of episodes 35 and 36 follow
Engine Sentai Go-onger
's format of using
kanji
and
katakana
only.
* Sosuke's racing suit has the names of Speedor, Bus-on, BeaRV, Birca and Gunpherd - the Go-ongers' Engine partners.
Episode 36
* While fighting Gormin sailors and Ugatz soldiers, Gokai Silver as Go-on Wings yells, "
Boom! Boom! Bang! Bang!
", which is from the lyrics of the
Engine Sentai Go-onger
opening theme.
* Sosuke proposes to join the Gokaigers as "Gokai Fire", a reference to Time Fire of
Mirai Sentai Timeranger
being the second red warrior of that team. This is also a possible reference to Wolzard Fire of
Mahou Sentai Magiranger
.
Episode 39
* The episode's title uses
Denji Sentai Megaranger
's format of using an exclamation or question before the title.
* The new "Digi Ken" lab retains the
Le Grand Bleu
(
The Big Blue
) movie poster originally seen in
Megaranger
. That poster was also seen in Gao Blue's quarters aboard the Gao's Rock in
Hyakujuu Sentai Gaoranger
.
* After Kanzen Gokaioh destroys Woodroid Moririn and Soilroid Dororin, Gokai silver yells, "Gokaiger Win!" - a reference on the "Megaranger Win" screen that flashes whenever the Megarangers defeat a Nejire Beast in
Megaranger
.
Episode 40
* At the end of his holographic message, Domon does his elbow tap gesture, which is a nod to his background as a professional grappler before becoming a Time Police cadet in
Mirai Sentai Timeranger
.
* The online newspaper Doc pulls up on the Gokai Galleon screen is
Tomorrow Research
, which was the name of the temp agency Tatsuya Asami set up for the Timerangers in
Timeranger
.
* [Non-Toku Trivia] When the Gokaigers arrive in the year 2010, Gokai Silver mentions that Tokyo Sky Tree is still being constructed. Construction of the tower started in July 2008 and was completed in March 2012. TV Asahi will be one of the TV networks to use the tower for digital broadcasting.
* The episode uses
Timeranger
's style of action cinematography, such as the bullet-time dodging and motion-blur sequences. Gai being hit by Zan-KT0's bullets reflects a scene in episode 1 where Tatsuya used the Timeranger suit for the first time.
* After destroying Zan-KT0, Gokai Silver says, "Time Up!", a catchphrase used by the Timerangers whenever they defeat a Londers Prisoner.
Episode 42
* [Shameless Plug] A Shakey's logo is seen on a wall in the background during the opening battle between the Gokaigers and an army of Gormin Sailors.
* The "Ooki Express" cargo boxes Gokai Green falls into during the opening battle were originally used in Act.0 of
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
.
* Chanbena-seijin Gin from
Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger
appears on part of the cover of the women's magazine Ahim is reading. Also appearing is Jellacit on the upper right corner of the cover.
Episode 44
* Shiro Akebono in a Santa Claus suit does his tropical dance like he did as Battle Kenya in
Battle Fever J
.
* The panda suit in the episode is the same one used in episode 1 of
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger
.
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Uchuu Keiji Gavan: The Movie
* In the flashback scene where Retsu Ichijouji rescues young Captain Marvelous, his dialogue references the lyrics of the
Uchuu Keiji Gavan
opening theme - most notably: "
Otoko nandarou?
" ("Are you a man?") "
Abayo namida,
" ("Farewell, tears.") and "
Yoroshiku yuuki.
" ("Welcome, courage.").
* The final henshin sequence of Gavan and the Gokaigers uses the narration format of
Gavan
(and subsequently the rest of the Space Sheriff trilogy), which explains how Retsu becomes Gavan in a fraction of a second.
Episode 45
* The episode title, "
Awatenbō Ninja
" ("A Confused Ninja") is a reference to the
Ninja Sentai Kakuranger
episode 36 ("
Abarenbō Ninja!!
", or "A Rambunctious Ninja!!"), which was the debut of Ninjaman.
* During her Treasure Navigation, Navi says, "Doro-doro-dororon," which is part of the lyrics of
Kakuranger
's ending theme.
* Ninjaman uses the narration style of
Kakuranger
when explaining why he was sealed in a jar for over 10 years. One of the pictures he displays uses the show's visual sound effects.
* When the Gokaigers change into different lion-themed warriors, Joe says, "Just correct," which was Go-on Blue's catchphrase in
Engine Sentai Go-onger
.
Episode 49
* When Takayuki Hiba, Sho Hayate, Dai, Akira and Remi Hoshikawa speak to the Gokaigers, some of them make references to the lyrics to their respective shows' opening themes.
* [Non-Toku Trivia] The Greatest Treasure in the Universe looks and functions like the Triforce of
The Legend of Zelda
game series. This may be a cross-promotion between Toei and Nintendo, as the
Gokaiger
-oriented games
Super Sentai Battle: Ranger Cross
and
Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Gathered Transformation! 35 Sentai!
are exclusive to the Wii and DS, respectively.
* The Gokai Change into Vul Eagle, Change Griffon, Green Flash, Blue Mask and Five Yellow is in the order of the shows' chronological releases.
Episode 50
* Yuka Yamazaki gives a Magi Red doll, which is a memento of Kai Ozu being her boyfriend in
Mahou Sentai Magiranger
.
* Making return appearances are the mother and her children from episode 23 and the school kid from episode 2.
* In their final encounter with Dyrandoh, the five main Gokaigers paraphrase their opening speech from episode 1, with "Super Sentai" replacing "pirates" in Captain Marvelous' line.
Episode 51
* At the Snack New Safari, Captain Marvelous finishes five plates of curry rice, a loose reference to Daita Ooiwa/Ki Ranger eating four bowls of curry rice in episode 1 of
Himitsu Sentai Goranger
.
* The teachers and school children from episode 1 make a return appearance. The Gokaigers paraphrase what they said to them in the end of episode 1.
Ending Theme Sequence 1 (
Goranger
to
Liveman
)
* The line for
Himitsu Sentai Goranger
is that team's roll call ("
Go-nin sorotte Goranger
," or, "When five are assembled, they become Goranger.")
* Denji Dog IC appears when
Denshi Sentai Denjiman
is mentioned.
* The line for
Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan
is the title of that show's second ending theme ("
Ichi tasu ni tasu Sun Vulcan
," or "One plus two plus Sun Vulcan").
* The line for
Choujuu Sentai Liveman
references the show's opening line "
Tomo yo, kimitachi wa naze?
" ("Friends, why?") A dolphin kissing Joe is a reference to the show's opening sequence where the Livemen play with dolphins at an aquarium.
Ending Theme Sequence 2 (
Turboranger
to
Timeranger
)
* Doc and Ahim wearing school uniforms references the members of
Kousoku Sentai Turboranger
being high school students.
* Captain Marvelous wearing a lab robe and glasses references the members of
Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman
being school teachers.
* The line, "
Jetman wa trendy
" ("Jetman was trendy") reflects
Choujin Sentai Jetman
being called a "trendy drama" at the time of its broadcast. Back in the mid- to late-1980s, TV shows with soap opera elements were considered trendy.
Ending Theme Sequence 3 (
Gaoranger
to
Goseiger
)
* The first line of this segment ("
Chikyuu no pinch itsu datte
," or, "Whenever Earth is in a pinch.") is a reference to the first line of the
Choushinsei Flashman
theme song.
* In the line mentioning
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger
, Captain Marvelous eating curry rice is a reference to the Abarangers' hangout Dino House restaurant.
* The Gekirangers fighting a panda is a reference to episode 1 of
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger
where Jyan is wrestling with pandas in a Chinese forest.
* For the line mentioning
Engine Sentai Go-onger
, the Go-ongers are riding on anime-style avatars of their Engine partners.
