The preview really showed a death flag for Neon, but there's quite a simple revelation that solved that. Still expected that Kanato is out though, the other potentially eliminated player, which'd mean it's true that fleshing out a character means they soon would be out. Actually didn't expect for Neon to get more than just one-time focus (previous episode), which is good.
So there are reasons behind Irumi's parenting, which is due to Neon being kidnapped when little (along with huge ransom money plus her famous status), and that. This is the overprotective-type, with her putting GPS trackers on Neon too, so even her realizing that streaming exposes her location won't help. The slap scene is also brutal, which is good to increase the intensity of the abuse and make her a detestable figure, and her gaslighting also doesn't help. Irumi being overprotective would claim that she wants the best for her, but as Neon pointed out, Irumi treated her like a doll instead of a person, especially other than Neon not being a child anymore, Neon had become a competent fighter at this point (including blocking Irumi's slap, outside Rider), a growth which Irumi can potentially ignore.
Speaking of Irumi, this episode also showed that Neon is not like her, regarding her reaction of being infected. Neon isn't someone who acts like a jerk to push others away for their sake, though not successful (but it worked out for her this way), she explains the situation and reasons to tell others to stay away from her, like not wanting them to get infected. Though if there are those who still insist to help, it's their decision even after knowing her infection. Wonder if Ace actually claims he only wants the points from killing zombie so that Neon won't tell him to go and he can listen and stay until he can inform her later. Afterwards, it shows that Neon is quite strong-willed too, to try when there's an actual chance (informed by Ace), despite being privileged which can imply that she's only handed everything on a silver platter without having to work.
Keiwa always meant well to anyone, including Neon here, and his care is just extra to constantly try to be in her side, and later giving up his Boost Buckle once again as someone else needs it, but yeah, as Neon said, merely saying kind things don't always help. That can veer into toxic positivity if it's too severe. Ace is the one that actually solved this problem, due to revealing the nature of DGP of resetting injuries. It seems that it's not about being nice or rude, but an important thing to help others is actual solution, if it exists, which requires knowledge and experience (though being nice while knowledgeable is better, insufferable geniuses can be more obnoxious). Keiwa isn't a Neon fan, but Neon is still a human being, so Keiwa can still be sad at her death due to a loss of human life, like Ginpen before, though dunno if Keiwa now understands why Neon wants to have normal life after hearing her phone talk (which is what made Sara a fan).
Michinaga continues his ruthlessness here that he'd take down Neon without second thought. But yeah, as Ace pointed out, being trigger happy isn't exactly smart or benefical, as Neon or Kanato hasn't turned into zombie yet thus Michinaga won't get any points yet. Being stupid isn't only applicable on naivety like Keiwa or Neon, but also making rash decisions of which as Ace pointed out, Michinaga is bullheaded... like his buffalo motif. Likely the reason why he can't beat Ace, he even pistol-whips with Magnum. Michinaga would be ok with Neon being killed, as he'd prefer others abandon Neon so she'd rot, but he won't gain the advantage he needed to beat Ace. Michinaga seems to be a schrodinger's asshole too, claiming that he's just kidding in his act to finish off Neon after Ace tells more about the DGP rules.
Kanato is out, and it's quite karmic. One of the DGP rules is that, being a griefer reduces your score (-1000), and Kanato plays like that, as someone who tries to ruin or hinder most other players, like being a teamkiller. Being a misantrophe is his downfall in DGP, as he can't stop antagonizing other humans in battle, which in turn he unintentionally reduces his points to lose to Neon. He's a better fit in Ryuki's Rider War, where you're meant to kill off other players. He seems to be only teleported out, and I wish that Kanato can find a way to cause another problem outside of DGP, or even disrupting it, so while he's eliminated, he's not exactly written out of the series.
OK, finally now I'm more suspicious of Morio, like many others. He too deliberately let the Jamatos attack the civilians before saving them, like what Michinaga accused Shirowe of. His attitude after Neon got infected is also a bit more extreme, like locking her up not unlike Irumi's actions, quite a change from though it's done so that she won't infect others. His talk about DGP's wish also seems to be purely personal like money, though when Keiwa talked about DGP taking other's lives, Morio also only talked about risking
his
life, not about taking others's lives without regard.
For all Neon's badassery in this episode, she's still not that close to others and only barely beat Kanato's score. Obviously not beating Ace or Michinaga, but I thought her points can beat Morio's or closer to him and Keiwa's (though now Morio makes use of rescuing scores). But it's not for naught that Keiwa lends Neon Boost Buckle, as Neon doesn't seem to be a good fighter before. In her Rider action, it seems that the difference between the upper and lower half is that, (upper-half/lower-half: ) Hammer/Boost means Neon gets to use Raise Hammer as weapon and her kicking/movements get augmented by boost, while Boost/Hammer gets her hammer boosted/enlarged. So it seems that Boost on upper-half combines both Buckles while Boost on lower half gets the Rider to use both Buckle separately.
