I think I meant to do this a couple days ago, but the 31st kinda crept up on me. Anyway, it's that time of year again: time to look back at the shows and movies of the past year and discuss what stood out as being the most impressive for you.

As always, for releases of this year I'm counting any series that aired any episodes during 2014, including: Kyoryuger, Gaim, ToQger, Zero Black Blood, Power Rangers Super Megaforce, Ultraman Ginga S, Garo Makai no Hana, Drive, and anything else that may have slipped my personal radar this year.

And again, for movies I'm counting anything that came out this year as well as anything that came out last year but wasn't available as a dvd/fansub until this year. If you want to include stuff that hasn't been available for viewing outside of Japan yet but you're pretty sure is going to be really, really awesome, go ahead.

Best Actor should go to Mahiro Takasugi. he knocked it out of the park in Gaim and he deserves so much praise for his performance. a talent I hope to see more of in the future.

best merchandise I would say is lockseeds. those things are a great marketing tool and they can always make more. here's hoping for G3-X lockseed in the future.

Worst is almost definitely Legendary Powers.

Best Actress is easily Yoko Minato's actress (can't remember her name of the top of my head), because she does her own stunt work, automatically making her awesome.

best weapon is Banana Spear.

okay, I wouldn't say Mitsuzane is a leading character. if anything that category would probably best suit the title character. and I'm all for Kouta getting best main character.

for side character though, Oren. ever scene with that character was just magical, and who doesn't love BRAVO!~

Best New Show of 2014: I really, really wish I could say Makai no Hana here, but the character issues were too big to ignore. So I'm going with Kamen Rider Gaim.

Best New-to-You Show of 2014: Ultraman Leo

Best Rewatch of 2014: Kamen Rider W (even if I'm technically only halfway through)

Best Movie of 2014: Kamen Rider Taisen Heisei vs. Showa

Best Male Lead Character: Raiga Saejima from Garo Makai no Hana

Best Female Lead Character: I am strong... I am strong... I am strong... Kagura Izumi Girl!!! (I really wish I could've said Mayuri from Garo, but the show's ambition for her were really held up by lousy execution)

Best Male Supporting Character: Everyone who isn't Crow. Seriously, though, Gonza from Garo. No contest.

Best Female Supporting Character: Chucky, the real hero of Gaim

Best Actor: Gaku Sano (Kouta from Gaim)

Best Actress: Minami Tsukui (Yoko from Gaim)

Biggest Toku Crush of 2014: Minami Tsukui (dem legs)

Best Villain: Mitsuzane Kureshima/Kamen Rider Ryugen/Sour Grapes

Best Returning Character: Takumi Inui/Kamen Rider Faiz (it's a real tough call with all of the guys who came back in the Rider War movie, but I really liked Takumi's character arc)

Best Suit Actor: Minami Tsukui (seriously, this lady is awesome)

Best Writer: Urobuchi Gen

Best Director: Keita Amemiya

Best Producer: Really haven't followed who's producing what this year

Best Visual Designer: There was a Garo series this year. Amemiya, no contest.

Best Hero Suit Design: Kamen Rider Drive, Type Speed

Best Monster Suit Design: I'd need to go back and rewatch Makai no Hana to narrow down a specific favorite. To save time I'll just go with Eiris.

Best Weapon: Mashin Chaser's Break Gunner. Not a lot of challengers, though, as I universally hated all of Gaim's fruit weapons and Toqger's train weapons.

Best Vehicle/Mecha: Trideron

Best Fight Scene: Drive vs. Heart (again because I'm too lazy to rewatch all of Garo)

Best Dramatic Scene: Rei coming back to train Raiga as a child. (Garo Makai no Hana)

Best Comedic Scene: Can't think of anything immediately that isn't from my rewatches of Den-O and W. Nothing from Drive, that's for damn certain.

Best Song: Makai no Hana's first opening.

Best Piece of Merchandise: I haven't bought any toku merch this year, so Figuarts Hibiki out of principle.

Biggest Surprise of 2014: Crunchyroll streaming not one, not two, not three, but four Ultraman series.

Single Worst Thing in 2014 Tokusatsu: Zero: Black Blood
