During a conversation with Reiji and the others, Setsuna begins to wonder if he, as an android, might actually have emotions.

Both morbidly fascinated and concerned that Kunai is clearly going to have his wall obsession played for all its worth in this show.
This is an episode with a lot of fun scenes with the cast doing various wacky things, but I think the limitations of the show's basic episodic plots are on full display here too. It feels like there is a big gap between the show's attempt at using aliens as an allegory for serious social issues and the fact the story tends to resolve everything is an ultra simplistic manner. In this episode we have immigrants who are struggling with a lack of access to resources or support they need and the solution is apparently just to get a dragon mech to suck up a bunch of really good water from somewhere else. This... says nothing about anything. Maybe she show would benefit from leaning more in a more lighthearted or more serious direction. Next week we have the Raiya and Luminous encounter! |

It's amazing that a story about tears can be so funny! The way Setsuna remains completely serious in the most ridiculous situations is simply the height of comedy. I also liked the explanation of why, of all the emotions, he focused on such a seemingly unwanted emotion as sadness. Indeed, it's harder for an android to cry than to laugh.
But there's plenty of drama in this story, too. The criminal's goal: to save his wife. And while I can't help but think he could have simply asked for help instead of kidnapping people, in situations like these, people tend to make stupid decisions. Plus, you can add the influence of NegaEmorgear. Despite the title, Setsuna and Kunai's interactions weren't extensive. Still, they were quite funny, especially when they got along wonderfully at the end. It's also quite unusual that it's the newcomer Kunai who decides to assemble a team of Gavans to fight a powerful galactic evil. It makes sense, though, since his Earth's main criminal has been neutralized, so he has more free time than Reiji. Overall, I enjoyed everything. And the next episode, as expected, takes Kunai to Luminos Earth. But Kiki herself has been kidnapped! I'm very curious to see what happens next. P.S. Rain of tears is very poetic. |
