i know this might be stupid to ask but since the learning of super sentai and the the fact power rangers use footage from them why have there become so many super sentai purists and haters of power rangers i know that in some case sentai is better then the power rangers verstion but i am curious why not like both yea not all seasons of PR are better then the sentai but come on we learn of sentai after the introducing and success of power rangers there must be some sentai fans that are purists that still enjoy wachng an episode or 2 of power rangers.

Pre-warning to keep this discussion friendly - on both sides of the argument.
Personally both have their merits. While I feel SPD, Mystic Force and Jungle Fury aren't anywhere near as good as Deka, Magi or Geki I was surprised to find that I enjoyed MMPR a lot more than Zyuranger. I also enjoyed RPM more than Go-onger (not that Go-on is bad in any way whatsoever), although the joy about those two series is that they're so different that half the time it doesn't even seem worth comparing them. I love the fact that I get the chance to watch the same designs in two different stories. It's only when Power Rangers slavishly copies the Sentai footage that I take issue with it (Samurai), and at the end of the day the target audience won't have watched the Sentai anyway.

Generalising - but for me it's a culture thing.
I relate to American culture, humour, settings and stories better than I do with those in Japan which makes it much easier for me to relate to the show and become emotionally engaged in it. That isn't to say it's necessarily better but I just find them much easier to get into and enjoy. It was, especially at the start, a very alienating experience watching Sentai with so much feeling so alien, especially those stories steeped in in Japanese culture and mythos of things I had never even heard of before. I'm glad I've seen anime or I wouldn't have had an idea what was going on at times. It's less of a problem now, to be fair, but I'm so used to the Power Rangers versions by this point it becomes weird going to Sentai for that reason.

I'm on the "Both Sides of the Arguement" side of the arguement. All depends on the series. Go-Busters wasn't very Good, Goseiger was and Kyoryuger definately is. Meanwhile Operation Overdrive was horrible but Mystic Force was amazing. I love them both. At times.

I don't even see why we need this thread, to be honest. Both aren't exclusive. You don't have to pick one and call it a day, which sadly is the mindset for many in the fandom.
Just like what you like. Simple. |
