For those of you who watched Kamen Rider Ryuki, specifically Kamen Rider Ryuki Episode FINAL, I think Shinji could have defeated Asakura. Remember how Dark Shinji nearly killed Asakura? He softened him up to the point where Femme ultimately landed the killing blow.
For Dark Shinji it wasn't even a struggle, he just beat his ass. Now Shinji was able to destroy Dark Shinji so I think...regular Shinji had it in him all along to take out Asakura, if pushed. While I think Akiyama would've had an easier time taking Asakura out, to me, it was plain to see that Dark Shinji could easily take out Asakura, and by that, so could Shinji.

Ryuki was the strongest all along. But his soft personality cut off like half of his power.

Shinji is a dumbass that even Scissors could've killed if Knight didn't save his sidekick.
...If you haven't guessed yet, I don't like Shinji. He's an idiot and not the fun kind like Gentaro. Shinji is "How is he not dead 50 times over?!" stupid. Last edited by Blade Raider; 10-25-2012 at 01:05 AM.. |

Seriously, Shinji was an everyman amongst uber-Riders that came before and after Ryuki. That most people don't see that makes me a little sad. Instead we get weak sauce character development from protagonists like Tsukasa, Tendou and a plethora of other one dimensional Riders up till W. He wasn't a badass. Was he an idiot? Maybe idiot is too strong a word. Idiotically naive maybe. But he had a hell of a lot of heart and made the sacrifice many talk about but few ever commit. As to whether he could beat Asakura? Yeah he probably could. Ren probably could too. Both were held back by conscience. See, Ren tried to hide that he had one while Shinji was always there trying to appeal to his opponent's humanity...or what little of it there was in most cases. |

So a somewhat realistic take on a guy with zero fight experience slowly learning that the world is filled with dark ego and ambitions eventually learning the ropes long enough to hold his own against the best of them is just not a character that appeals to you then?

Shinji didn't want to fight until it was absolutely necessary to preserve life. However Dark Shinji showed that should he tap into his held back rage, he could destroy. Then Episode FINAL proved that even his regular self was stronger than his dark side, so that says a lot about him.

These days, Riders get stuck with a shtick, Wizard loves doughnuts, OOO had an obsession with shorts, Tendou had a semi-God complex, Tsukasa was a dick, Gentarou had clingy friendship issues etc etc. So Shinji saw in the good in everyone.
Notice how Gentarou tries to reason with whatever villain he fights first? Shinji tried doing that almost all the time up till the point he had trust issues himself. In Ryuki, the Riders were their own monsters both literally and figuratively. That Shinji was the sole beacon of light in that dark story on to be killed was classic tragedy. |

I dunno...remember the episodes when he just "stopped thinking"? He was opening a serious can of whoo pass...I think he did catch Asakura off guard and could have taken him out then...
